Residents fled when a fire ripped through a power distribution company in India on Friday.

The blaze emerged from buildings inside the compound in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Police and firefighters rushed to the scene to bring the inferno under control at around 2pm local time.

Officials said an estimated 4,000 transformers, meters, conductors and other electrical machinery and equipment were stored at the facility spread over eight acres.

There were no casualties reported but people living near the facility were evacuated.

The fire was brought under control after around eight hours, the company said.
