Homeless's tents confiscated by City of Cape Town law enforcement ahead of rain

Despite seeking legal advise and being told their makeshift structures are legal, about 100 homeless persons had their tents confiscated by City of Cape Town municipal police.

Since the Covid19 lockdown and pandemic affected communities, homelessness has been increasing around the sea point area.

( 1 ) Adrian, one of the affected persons says they were told by a Non governmental organisation Supertroopers that they have the protection of the law.

The Municipal police arrived without any court papers or written notices and commenced with the confiscation which they deem legal.

A community member from Sea point also tried to intervene and have the confiscation ceased.

A number of fines were issued to homeless persons for trespassing.
