Western Cape local government election results update

Michael Hendrickse, the IEC’s (Independent Electoral Commission) chief electoral officer in the Western Cape updated the media at a 5pm briefing. At 5pm the election results were 60% counted and the final media briefing will be held tomorrow at 11am.

A total of 3930 result slips needs to be captured within the Western Cape. At around 16h30 an estimated 2395 result slips had already been captured.

Hendrickse announced the Democratic Alliance had achieved outright majorities in three municipalities. The three municipalities are Berg River, Swartland and Hessequa. There are also twelve municipalities with hung councils, where no party has achieved an outright majority.
