Wild Sloth Climbs Down Tree - They Only Do This Once a Week! - Cahuita, Costa Rica

My 7-year-old daughter Tzivia (pictured at beginning of video) and I were lucky enough to witness this wild three-toed sloth climbing down this tree to defecate, which they only do once a week. This is the very end of the slow climb. Sloths are usually almost motionless, hanging upside down high in trees, slowly eating leaves. It was so exciting to witness this sloth coming down. We made sure to stay far back to give the sloth space. I have another video uploaded showing what the sloth did next: walked across the grass to another tree. This was at Playa Negra in Cahuita, Costa Rica.
