Brave Sloth Reaches Behind to Switch Palm Trees - Costa Rica

Buy video

Wow! You can see in my other videos that this three-toed sloth at Playa Negra in Cahuita, Costa Rica, had just come down from another tree and climbed up into this first palm tree. Well I assumed the sloth would settle in and get slothful again, barely moving at all. Instead, this brave sloth reached behind to transfer to another palm tree, patiently trying and trying until finally the sloth had a good enough grip on the new tree to let go of the first one. Wow! My 7-year-old daughter Tzivia and I witnessed it all, but, unlike the people you see in the video, we kept our distance to try to help the sloth feel safe and comfortable. The word for sloth in Spanish is perezoso, which is also the word for lazy. It is very rare to see a sloth so active.
