Indonesian who lost job during COVID-19 makes living carving lamps from discarded glass bottles

Rian from Padang in Indonesia lost his job during the COVID-19 pandemic but now makes a living carving stunning decorative lamps from discarded glass bottles.

"I was laid off from work because of the COVID-19 pandemic," the 28-year-old says.

"Then I looked for useful activities and tried to carve wood with a mini drill, but I got bored and finally I tried it on the glass," he adds, seated beside some of his recent creations.

He sells his lamps for between 80,000 rupiah (5.57 USD) and 500,00 rupiah (35 USD) and markets them via social media.
