Several homes were damaged as a tropical summer storm swept through eastern Thailand.

The storm brought heavy rain and strong winds, in some areas there was also hail smashing into houses.

A 100-year-old Takhian tree collapsed onto four homes in Ban Chang district, Rayong Province. Residents trapped inside their homes had to be rescued by officers on April 5 as the large branch blocked the entrance.

In the Mueang Rayong district, residents spotted hail falling from the sky.

Ratchada Bunsang said: ‘The huge tree not only damaged homes but also broke my car and hit an 80-year-old woman’s head. The storm definitely caused more than 400,000 THB worth of damage.’

The injured woman was taken to the hospital but was not seriously hurt.

The Meteorological Department issued a warning of a summer storm in upper Thailand. In the Northeastern region, the temperature was expected to drop by 5-7 degrees Celsius, in the north, central and eastern regions, including Bangkok and surrounding provinces, the temperature will drop by 2-4 degrees Celsius.

Residents in upper Thailand have been informed of the thunderstorms and have been instructed to avoid being in the open and near tall objects to prevent accidents.
