Driverless vehicles were used to deliver groceries to residents in Shanghai amid a COVID-19 lockdown.

Video filmed on April 7 shows a driverless vehicle carrying groceries into residential communities.

COVID-19 volunteers can be seen taking the groceries out of the vehicle after it arrived at the customers' building.

An online shopping platform named Meituan transferred a batch of autonomous delivery vehicles from Beijing to Shanghai for the contactless delivery during a resurgence in COVID-19 cases.

The vehicles were helping deliver groceries to more than 5,000 residents while each vehicle can load more than 150 kilograms of groceries and is able to complete around 500 orders per day.

The workers at each point put the orders into the vehicle and it drove the last one kilometre to deliver the groceries to the residents.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
