Eleven fishermen stranded in sea airlifted in eastern India

As many as eleven stranded fishermen were rescued from the sea in eastern India's Odisha.

They had been trapped inside a fishing boat in the sea off Ganjam coast.

A Coast Guard Helicopter carried out the rescue operation.

Visuals showed the helicopter winching a fisherman and pulling it up.

As per reports, the fishermen had ventured into the sea near Sonpur in Ganjam district of Odisha on May 9.

The fishermen from Visakhapatnam in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh state, were trapped after their boat malfunctioned. The helicopter was pressed into action following information about the trapped fishermen, from local officials.

The stranded fishermen were airlifted from their boat and brought to the shore, reports said.
