A hungry wild elephant raided a house in search of food in Thailand.

The male jumbo identified by park rangers as Chao Lamut wandered into the home next to a fruit orchard in Prachin Buri province, Thailand on June 12.

It surveyed the property until it found the back kitchen where there were supplies and feasted on rice, dried fish, and some sauces.

Footage shows the creature using its trunk to pull containers from the kitchen while slowly making its way inside.

House owner Phaew Thaweesuk, 80, said: ‘We have seen this elephant many times before. Whenever he's hungry, he comes by our village and steals from our supplies.

‘We wouldn't mind sharing our supplies, but the elephant had started to destroy our roofs. That couldn't be helped because the elephant was big, but I hope something could be done about it.'

The old man added that before reaching his house which was next to an orchard, the elephant tried to take some fruits from a market stall but was chased away.

No one was reported hurt but the jumbo damaged the old man's fence, roof, and kitchen before fleeing back to the forest.

Local officials said they would help the old man with the repairs and would patrol the area in case the creature returned to push it back to the forest.

Elephants are the national animal of Thailand. An estimated 2,000 elephants are living in the wild and a similar number in captivity.

In the wild, they roam through the deep jungle and in the country's protected national parks but often encounter humans on nearby roads and villages.
