Hungry wild elephant chases pickup truck to look for food
A hungry wild elephant chased a pickup truck to look for food.
The jumbo was waiting on the edge of a road when the motorists passed by in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, Thailand, on November 25.
Footage shows the animal walking against traffic while the vehicle backed away to avoid it.
It didn't pursue them when they were finally at a safe distance, but the drivers had to go to a different route. No one was hurt or damaged.
Motorist Lakkana Supsirigane said: ‘The elephant wanted to see what was on the car's back.'
As of 2023, there are an estimated 3,084-3,500 wild elephants in Thailand. The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still a fraction of the estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in Thailand at the beginning of the 20th century. The main threats to wild elephants in Thailand are habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and conflict with humans.
