A railway staff saved a man's life and prevented him from being run over by an incoming train in eastern India's West Bengal.

The incident happened at the Balichak station of the Kharagpur division on platform number two. The incident took place on June 23.

Visuals showed the railway staff, identified as H Satish Kumar, patrolling the platform when he suddenly spots an old man lying on the tracks. In an instant, he ran hard with everything he had for around 50 metres, got down the platform on the tracks and saved the man's life.

He picked up the old man in the nick of time and placed him in an area beside the tracks, seconds before the goods train entered the scene.

His show of exemplary courage and alertness has received widespread appreciation from the railway fraternity.
