Footage shows a flooded neighbourhood in the South Maroota area of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia, on Wednesday July 6.

Thousands of homes were cut off from power. More than 50,000 people were urged to evacuate the region following the heavy rain, with rescue teams in boats going from home to home.

New South Wales Premier Dominic Perrottet said: 'This event is far from over. Wherever you are, please be careful when you're driving on our roads. There are still substantial risks for flash flooding.'
