This is the uplifting moment local Filipinos showed their optimism and resilience - cheering as a bus powered its way through a flooded road.

Video captured by Nicole Villacorte shows residents watching in anticipation as the vehicle carrying dozens of passengers refused to be beaten by the deluge in Mandaue City, Cebu on September 12.

Nicole said: 'That video was really just for fun. I just took a video because I was amazed at how those people cheered every time a vehicle attempted to cross over the flood.'

The filmer said that many commuters were stranded following the heavy rain, which submerged large parts of the city.

Meteorologists said the floods were caused by heavy rains from by the southwest monsoon.
