A missing fisherman was found alive after drifting at sea for nine hours when his boat capsized in Indonesia.

Modum, 42, was reported missing when rocky waves crashed into his boat, throwing him and 11 others overboard off the coast of Mukomuko Regency, Bengkulu province, at 6:30 p.m. local time on October 13.

Bengkulu search and rescue (SAR) teams set out to comb the waters along Muaro Ipuh Beach and fished out all of Modum's fellow crew from the rough sea.

However, the fisherman himself was nowhere to be found.

Search operations continued until 3:00 a.m. local time on October 14, when officers found Modum sitting on his overturned boat's hull around one mile away from the crash site.

Footage shows the rescuers spotting hapless Modum at the mercy of the waves, waiting patiently in the dark for help to arrive.

They helped him onto their boat before taking him back to the mainland for a checkup.

Muhamad Arafah, head of the Bengkulu SAR office, said: 'Modum was found one mile from the initial location of the shipwreck.

'Thank you to the fishermen, their families, the community, and the joint SAR team for helping to search for the missing people.'
