A fisherman who suffered severe abdominal pain and numbness in his arms and legs was successfully evacuated from a boat in Argentina.

The crew member, 33, from the Argentine-flagged fishing vessel Marianela was urgently evacuated by specialized troops from the Argentine Naval Prefecture because he needed urgent medical attention while sailing more than 230 kilometres from the coast, near the Chubut city of Comodoro Rivadavia, Argentina, on July 22.

The emergency began when the vessel's captain contacted the Comodoro Rivadavia Coastal Station, reporting the crew member's condition.

After a radio consultation with a medical team, the air evacuation of the man was arranged.

A plane and a helicopter from the Argentine Naval Prefecture, with highly trained personnel for such situations, were immediately dispatched to the vessel's location.

The aircraft was located over the ship, and a sanitary basket was lowered to hoist the crew member, who received initial care on board.

On the ground, an ambulance was coordinated at the Trelew airport. The man was transferred to a local hospital for better care.
