Boy, 13, injured after being flung from fairground swing ride when 'lock breaks'
This is the shocking moment a boy was flung from a fairground swing ride allegedly due to the broken locks on his seat suddenly opening.
Mark Fajardo, 13, and other youngsters were spinning on the 'wave swinger' attraction during Halloween festivities in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan province in the Philippines on November 1.
Onlookers screamed in delight as the ride began accelerating, remarking on the carousel's high speed.
However, The jubilant shrieks were replaced with cries of terror when moments later Mark was sent flying from his seat and slammed into a set of steel grills with a loud crash.
Holidaymakers rushed the unconscious boy to the hospital as he had sustained serious injuries.
Mark survived but hsi family said he had to undergo pneumonectomy to remove one of his lungs due to the impact.
The teenager's mother Marivic Fajardo said: 'Doctors told me he had to be careful since he now only has one lung left.
'I hope the operators won't make up stories. They're blaming my son, saying he removed the lock. Why would he do that when the ride was going so fast?'
Police Major General Ria Tacderan, Pangasinan police public information officer, said officers are now investigating the ride.
The policeman said: 'Our problem now is to see if anyone is monitoring or checking the rides before they are used.'
The wave swinger attraction has been suspended while investigations are ongoing.
Police said that the fairground has a permit and is operating legally but the document could be revoked if safety violations are proven.
