Members of South Africa’s leftwing Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party protested outside Hank’s Olde Irish Pub in Cape Town.

The protest comes after the restaurant hit the headlines for allegedly preventing a black patron from entering the venue without being accompanied by a white person.

Thabiso Danca was allegedly denied entry by a bouncer at the venue last Thursday (December 1). Danca was allegedly told by the bouncer that black people were not allowed to enter without a white person because black cause problems and steal. Thabiso’s white friend Christopher Logan then confronted one of the owners last Friday (December 2).

In a video that went viral, Christopher Logan accuses the owners of racism and reminds them of South Africa’s painful past in dealing with racism.

Wandile Kasibe, Western Cape Communications Manager for the EFF, said white people should confront racism amongst their own and said Christopher Logan should be commended for his courageous actions.

Kasibe further said they would ensure the pub remained closed and will be laying a complaint with the South African Human Rights Commission.
