An avalanche swept an electricity pylon down a mountain near Russia's Sochi on February 20.

Footage captured by an eyewitness shows the pylon being dragged down a slope by the cascading snow.

No casualties were reported but the incident did damage a snow cannon, the protective mesh fence, and communications along the bobsleigh track were broken.

Another clip shows a group of skiers at the Laura ski resort near Sochi caught off-guard by an unexpected avalanche.

As the skiers were inside a local bar and did not have time to react as the avalanche partially buried the building.

On February 20, 2023, between the Alpika resorts of the GTZ Gazprom and Rosa Khutor, there was an avalanche in the mountains of Sochi, Russia. The incident was caught on camera by eyewitnesses and posted online. Local residents reported that the avalanche also demolished a power line pylon.

Thankfully, there were no casualties reported as a result of the avalanche. However, a snow cannon was destroyed, and the protective mesh was damaged. The fence and communications on the bobsleigh track along the mudflow allotment were also broken.

In the second video, another incident happened: a group of skiers had a close call with an unexpected avalanche at the Laura ski resort, also in Sochi, Russia. The incident occurred as the skiers were taking a break under the roof of a local bar, following a successful run down the mountain.

A layer of snow that had been building up on the roof suddenly rolled off and covered the three people inside. The skiers were caught off guard and did not have time to react before being buried under the snow. Thankfully, eyewitnesses and employees of the ski resort were quick to react and rushed to the scene with shovels to dig out the buried skiers.

Fortunately, the skiers buried in the avalanche were not injured and were quickly handed over to doctors for a general examination. All people who go to mountainous areas should take this as a warning to be ready for anything and to stay alert at all times.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of nature and the dangers that can arise in mountainous regions. While it had been snowing for three days in the Sochi mountains, a sudden change in weather conditions led to a sharp warming, causing avalanches to descend at an altitude of more than 500 meters above sea level.
