This time-lapse shows a spectacular Aurora Borealis captured in Swatragh, Northern Ireland, on February 26.

"It was the best visual aurora display I've seen since 2014", said Martin, the filmer.

"We could see green and red colors with the naked eye. I shot several time lapses, this was with a very wide angle 15mm lens on a full-frame DSLR, the auroral beams took up a large portion of the frame, in fact, to the naked eye they reached 50 degrees (100 apparent full moon diameters) high into the constellation of Cepheus", he explained.

Last night a CME from the sun impacted the Earth with solar wind speeds of between 600 and 700km/sec which generated a major geomagnetic storm, the auroras which resulted were between G2 and G3 levels in intensity and form a personal perspective it was the best visual aurora display I've seen since 2014. This was shot using 6 sec exposures at ISO6400 at F/2,8, you can see the waxing and waning of activity in response to the tilting of the magnetic field. This was captured from Swatragh and I have included a short section at the end from the Co. Antrim coast at Ballintoy before cloud rolled in. More auroras are expected tonight!
