Cape Town, 20 March 2023: Comedian Conrad Koch was chased away from the EFF’s (Economic Freedom Fighters) National Shutdown march in Cape Town after he made remarks about VBS Bank. The brother of EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu, Brian, is implicated in the looting of VBS Bank which was forced into liquidation. Koch who makes comedic political commentary via his puppet Chester Missing quickly had to leave the scene after EFF members had to be held back and protesters can be heard shouting “racist”.

The EFF, South Africa’s third largest political party, held its national shutdown with protests in cities and towns throughout the country. Amongst the party’s demands is the resignation of President Cyril Ramaphosa over the Phala Phala scandal and an end to rolling blackouts in the country.
