A horrified worker watched as enormous sand formed outside her workplace in Saudi Arabia.

Footage shows the thick blanket of brown dust towering about 50ft-high from the ground in the Mecca Region on March 15.

The dust wall was followed by a heavy downpour and residents were advised to stay indoors.

Employee Annalyn Vitor said she was stunned as the weather phenomenon slowly crept across the structures.

She said: ‘It was my first time experiencing a sand storm. I thought it was a tornado but a giant wall of sand. It was hot, and when it was gone, it rained.'

A sand storm usually forms when strong winds lift large amounts of dust from bare soil into the atmosphere.
