One worker was killed when a concrete beam from a construction site for an elevated highway fell onto a road.

The concrete slab fell on the Rama II road in Bangkok, Thailand on May 7 killing Worawut Pannon, 54, and also damaged four cars shortly after 4PM local time.

It was reported that workers were on the beam when the slings snapped and the concrete slab fell down.

Phuriwat Peng-ampai, 38, stated that he heard some movement above him, then a large concrete slab slowly tilted and fell onto the road surface, causing his car's tire to break and his windshield to crack.

Another driver, Sumet Khirimek, 40, also heard the noise and quickly swerved to avoid being hit but his car still sustained damage, including a broken tire and cracked windshield from the debris.

Police Colonel Lertsak Kheamsap, the superintendent at Tha Kham Police Station, has ordered an investigation into the incident.

The investigation included questioning the victims and the contractor, as well as sending forensics police to collect evidence.

After the incident, the governor of the Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) Surachet Laophulsuk suspended the construction for seven days for an investigation to find the cause of the accident.

It was later confirmed that the slings that were connecting the lifting frame had snapped, causing the concrete segment to fall down.

He also stated that EXAT would provide full compensation to the deceased and other victims.

EXAT revealed that the contractor for the project was CTB Joint Venture, which is made up of China Harbour Engineering Limited, Buriram Thongchai Construction Ltd, and Tipakorn Ltd.
