Retired boxer teaches kids Muay Thai for free in Thailand
This retired professional boxer teaches Muay Thai lessons to children completely free of charge.
Preecha Shinhuadong, 48, known by his students as 'Kru Preecha' or Master Preecha, trains youngsters in martial arts and self-defense at his home in Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand.
To save on rent, he uses his yard as a makeshift gym, while recycling old mitts, gloves, and sandbags from his days as an active athlete.
Footage shows the generous boxer-turned-mentor watching and guiding his trainees as they sparred on mats at his residence.
Preecha, better known as Charoenthai S. Thanapinyo in the boxing scene, said has been practising Muay Thai since he was 12. He had a mixed win-loss record throughout his career, and said his highest earnings from a match were 40,000 THB (1,151 USD).
As his reflexes grew slower due to age, he said he decided to retire to teach the younger generation of Thai boxers.
He said: 'I offer my lessons for free to the children. I teach them various techniques, stances, and attacking strategies using fists, feet, elbows, and knees. But due to financial constraints, I can't afford to provide meals for them here.
'All 11 of my students are required to run every evening. This will help instill discipline and responsibility in them.'
Resident Namjai Wongnok, 67, said she brought her grandson, 5, to Preecha so they could learn about self-defense, and hone their boxing skills for a potential future career in the sport.
She said: 'After enrolling my grandson in Preecha's Muay Thai classes, I noticed he was stronger and he was less interested in video games.'
