A boat made out of chocolate was set afloat in San Sebastian, northern Spain, on June 1.

Chocolatiers from a local store in Albaola made a replica of a whaling boat, known locally as a txalupa.

Hundreds of locals lined the port to watch as the chocolate boat was pushed out to sea.

Two chocolatiers operated the boat whilst two other wooden boats patrolled just in case of a disaster.

The construction of the boat required 1,700kg of chocolate which was not edible as it was out of date.

A wooden boat was placed upside down so the team could mould the chocolate around it. The keel, the top, and the seats were made out of wood.
