A major rescue operation is underway following a devastating collision involving at least two trains in Odisha's Balasore district in eastern India on June 3.

Reports indicate that the Coromandel Express, a prominent train route connecting Kolkata and Chennai, was travelling at approximately 80mph when it crashed into a stationary freight train in Balasore around 7pm on Friday. The impact resulted in the derailment of the freight train, which subsequently struck two carriages from the Howrah Superfast Express train, approaching from the opposite direction.

Pradeep Jena, the Chief Secretary of the region, provided updates on the situation via Twitter. He revealed that more than 200 ambulances were urgently summoned to the scene on Friday, joining the already present 80 doctors. Recognising the gravity of the situation, an additional 100 medical professionals were swiftly mobilized to offer their expertise and assistance to those affected by the tragic incident.
