"Are you pregnant?" Woman publicly shamed in Chinese market for mushroom theft
A woman was caught red-handed stuffing a packet of flat mushrooms surreptitiously into her trousers in eastern China.
The CCTV footage was filmed in the city of Nanjing in Jiangsu Province on June 29.
As the woman attempted to make her exit, the market owner halted her with a dose of public humiliation, wryly inquiring whether she was "expecting a baby", alluding to the strange bulge under her clothing. Embarrassed, the woman could only repeatedly mutter her apologies.
The market owner explained, with a tone of disapproval, that as an adult, the woman should clearly distinguish between right and wrong. Stealing is a moral failing, and such behaviour must not be allowed to go unchecked.
In a turn of justice, the market owner demanded payment for the purloined mushrooms before allowing the embarrassed woman to leave the premises.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
