Police swiftly arrested a young man after a daring gold necklace theft from a jewellery store.

The CCTV footage was filmed in Wuhan City in Hubei Province on April 7.

A young man entered a jewellery store in the Jiang'an District. Requesting to see “the thickest and heaviest gold chain,” the unsuspecting staff presented a 70-gram necklace valued at over 40,000 yuan (£4,442.12). However, as he admired himself in the mirror, the young man suddenly dashed out of the store and vanished into the crowded street.

The swift staff member immediately alerted the police, who then retrieved surveillance footage from both the store and the street, tracking the suspect into a nearby alley.

Further video evidence led them to two crucial leads: the suspect had taken a taxi to the vicinity of Wuchang Railway Station, and he had been spotted wearing the uniform of a local barbecue restaurant, suggesting prior employment there.

Upon visiting the barbecue restaurant, the police learned that the suspect, a 19-year-old man surnamed Li from Gansu Province, had only worked there for less than three days before resigning. It was revealed that Li had missed a dinner appointment with a fellow employee from his hometown on the night of the theft.

Continuing their search at Wuchang Railway Station, the police eventually spotted Li late at night. They promptly apprehended him on the west square, recovering the stolen necklace during the arrest.

En route back to Jiang'an District, Li expressed deep remorse, lamenting his impulsive actions and the subsequent regret. During the investigation, Li confessed that he had found the job too demanding and, running low on funds, decided to commit the theft before planning to leave Wuhan.

The recovered necklace was returned to the jubilant jewellery store, where the staff praised the police for their rapid and successful investigation.

The following day, the store presented a banner to the police station, praising their quick resolution and dedication.

Li is currently detained by Jiang'an police as the investigation continues.
