This is the horror moment a plane veered off a runway and broke into pieces at an airport in Somalia.

The Halla Airlines-operated Embraer EMB 120 jet carrying 34 passengers and crew was landing at the Aden Adde International in Mogadishu when it skidded off the tarmac and smashed into a fence on July 11.

Footage shows the aircraft touching down on the runway before swerving sharply off the path. The crash severely damaged the fuselage, while the cockpit was seen nearly severed from the plane.

In a statement, the Somali Civil Aviation Authority said: 'The Somali Civil Aviation Authority wishes to confirm that an aircraft type E120 operated by Halla Airline crash landed on Runway 05 at Aden Adde International Airport today, 11th July 2023, at 12:23 pm local time.

'The aircraft had a total of 34 crew and passengers on board; there was no fatality from the accident except minor injuries. The Somali Civil Aviation Authority would like to reaffirm that the preliminary report will be released once the current investigation concludes.'

Fardowsa Osman Egal, Somali Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, said that two people were injured and that investigations were ongoing.

The cause of the accident was not immediately clear.
