This is the second offspring of a mother giraffe after the birth of a female a year and a half ago.

The zoo carefully integrates the cub into the giraffe herd, contributing to efforts to preserve endangered species of reticulated giraffes.

Zookeepers have so far separated the newborn and its mum from the rest of the group, to simulate a wild environment where bearing giraffes isolate themselves from the rest of the herd.

The zoo said: "If everything goes according to plan, the other group members will get to know the calf over the next few days. So will his older sister.
