Specialists have created a number of frog ponds at Schoenbrunn Zoo in the Austrian capital Vienna.

It is part of a nationwide project to help conserve green toads, which are under threat because of habitat loss.

The project, named AmphiBiom, is led by the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (BOKU) and will reportedly create about 300 new water ponds across Austria.

The mini pools will measure around one square metre in size and be located mostly in private gardens.

Reports say they will be regularly monitored over a period of two years to trace the toads' colonisation progress.
