This is the dramatic moment frantic locals battled to keep raging floods from washing away vehicles.

Residents of Santa Cruz town in Davao del Sur in the Philippines flocked to Matutungan Village on June 19 to watch a boxing match.

They parked their vehicles on the roadside not far from the venue in the morning, but torrential rain fell in the afternoon and triggered a flash flood.

Video shows the chaos as the locals scrambled to save a tricycle and a motorcycle from the surging muddy water. Some of the men slipped and were nearly carried away by the flood.

Water was seen cascading down a portion of the unpaved road that had collapsed.

Onlooker Arjy Mensira said village officials later arrived to lend their assistance. He said there were no serious injuries or casualties from the flood.

Local media reported that the water receded but left the road littered with rocks and mud.

The Philippines and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are approaching their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
