This is the moment residents towed a car out of a street flooded by monsoon rains in the Philippines.

The locals had tied a rope to the white vehicle and were dragging it out of the deluge submerging the Filinvest subdivision area of Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur province, on August 12.

Some residents were also seen escaping from the chest-high floods while carrying their pets.

State weather agency PAGASA said the stormy weather was caused by the southwest monsoon, which is expected to bring scattered rain showers across the country during the week.

The Philippines and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
