A boy got an electric shock by touching a railing at a supermarket in southern China.

CCTV footage filmed in the city of Yiyang in Hunan Province on July 19 shows a 4-year-old boy leaning backwards onto a row of stainless-steel railings near the checkout counter at a supermarket.

He held the railing for nearly a minute before suddenly collapsing onto the floor.

An insider source revealed that the boy got an electric shock as there was an electrified socket nearby with a live wire coiled around the railing. The wire had exposed metallic filaments.

The informant added that the boy had developed a white blister on the bottom of his big toe due to the shock. He was taken to a local hospital for an initial checkup later that night.

On the morning of July 20, the boy's parents took him to a hospital in Yiyang City for further medical examination.

An official from the Majitang Town government commented that they had sent personnel to handle the situation immediately after receiving a phone call about the incident on the evening of the 19th.

They found the child to be out of immediate danger, and the supermarket management had already discussed the incident with the boy's parents.

As per the parents' request, the supermarket agreed to have the child examined at the hospital.

The town government official also noted that they carry out monthly inspections of the supermarket and will be urging the store management to rectify this serious safety oversight.
