Helicopters conducted search and rescue operations as disastrous floods engulfed swathes of Nova Scotia on Saturday, July 22.

Footage shows Royal Canadian Air Force Cormorants surveying flooded roads in the areas of Windsor and East Hants, which were submerged in a muddy deluge following torrential rains on Friday, July 21.

Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston said three months' worth of rain had fallen in Nova Scotia on Friday night, leaving at least four people missing.

Halifax Mayor Mike Savage said: 'We have had biblical proportions of rain over the night and into the day.'

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's office said in a statement: 'The Prime Minister reiterated the Government of Canada's commitment to supporting Nova Scotians in the days and weeks ahead to respond to the flooding.

'He also acknowledged the strength of Nova Scotians, who are coming together in hard times and showing up for each other.'

Authorities have placed Nova Scotia under a state of emergency due to the severe floods.
