As typhoon Doksuri looms, residents in southern China have been making drastic preparations to prevent damage from the predicted storm.

Video filmed in the city of Xiamen in Fujian Province on July 27, some residents wrapping and securing their vehicles to idle cement pipes to prevent them from being washed away by the violent storm.

Coastal hotels have gone to the extreme of bringing in cement to block their main entrances, while residents have resorted to using ropes to secure their rooftops to prevent them from being blown away.

Security booths have been reinforced with tape on the glass to strengthen them against the storm.

In a bid to brace for the oncoming Typhoon Doksuri, the Central Meteorological Observatory has issued a red typhoon warning. Typhoon Doksuri, the fifth storm of this year, is predicted to progress northwest at a pace of 10 to 15 kilometres per hour, making landfall on the morning of July 28.

The maximum impact is likely to be felt from Jinjiang in Fujian to the coast along the border of Fujian and Guangdong, where it could hit with a powerful or even super typhoon level force, with wind speeds of 45 to 52 metres per second, equivalent to a category 14 to16 storm.

Meanwhile, in Zhangzhou, Fujian, locals are not taking any chances against Typhoon Doksuri. In an attempt to secure a gazebo from being blown away by the powerful storm, residents have resorted to tying it down tightly to a concrete pillar.
