Dozens of homes plunged into a swollen river eroded by recent torrential weather in the Philippines.

The families were having breakfast when there was a loud rumble and the ground started to shake in Nueva Ecija province on July 30.

Residents rushed outside and were shocked to see their homes - at least 25 of them in the neighbourhood - topple into the water one by one.

Footage shows collapsed houses and debris scattered on the riverbank. A safety barrier built on the edge of the river also slid down and sank into the water.

Local officer Zenaida Gutierrez said: ‘We were relieved it happened in the morning when everyone was already awake. We would have fallen into the river with our houses if it happened at night while we sleep.'

The affected families - a total of 108 people - were taken to an evacuation centre while local government helped them find a new shelter.

Zanaida added: ‘No one was hurt but the houses were all gone. No one was also injured.'

Super Typhoon Doksuri, locally named Egay, lashed the northern part of the country killing dozens and leaving an extensive damage.
