A popular restaurant created special jelly flower cakes for Mother's Day in Thailand.

Boonrawd Kitchen in northern Chiang Mai province prepared the beautiful jasmine flower-shaped desserts for the 91st birthday of Queen Mother Sirikit, once known as the 'Mother of the Nation', on August 12.

Footage shows the restaurant chef painstakingly pouring dyed coconut milk jelly into different molds to form colourful jasmine bouquets and garlands traditionally gifted to mums during the holiday.

Restaurant owner Kansinee Harnpajonesuk, 40, said that the 'sweet young coconut milk jelly' used in the cakes is a popular item from the restaurant's regular menu. She said the jelly cakes were made to be healthier and less sweet, but still fragrant with the coconut scent.

She said the cakes, which start at 199 THB (around 5.7 USD), were popular with customers and typically served as a set of four pieces, along with osmanthus flower tea sourced from the Doi Mae Salong hills.

Thai locals celebrate Mother's Day on August 12, coinciding with the birth of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, once revered as the 'Mother of the Nation'.

During the holiday, children gift their mums with garlands of jasmine, said to symbolise purity and maternal love.
