This is the dramatic moment a monsoon rainstorm whipped through a monorail station drenching commuters in Bangkok, Thailand, on Thursday evening, August 31.

The downpour smashed into the Thai capital city during the rush hour at around 7pm. Footage was taken at the Don Mueang Airport platform.

It came as The Thai Meteorological Department forecast fstrong monsoons sweeping across the northern and upper northeastern regions. Officials said a strong southwest monsoon was also blowing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
