Stranded commuters and motorists cheered as a bus crossed over a flooded road in the Philippines.

The locals were heard clapping and howling in unison as the large yellow bus braved the deluge swamping a road in Mandaue City, Cebu province, following a torrential downpour on September 11.

Despite the heavy flooding, the vehicle managed to cross over without stalling.

Onlooker Ariel Suquib said the flood along AS Fortuna St. has been a perennial problem for residents for decades.

He said: 'I am hoping that there would be a long-term solution for this recurring problem. It's been so long, but we still have to deal with this every year.'

The Philippines and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.

The country is prone to typhoons, with approximately 20 storms entering its monitoring zone annually.
