A superstitious Thai man built a giant penis shrine for good luck.

Retired policeman Thoob Lamoonmob, 86, said he had been planning the unconventional place of worship on his five-acre plot of land for several years in Kamphaeng Phet, Thailand.

He finally plucked up the courage to construct the massive member from concrete, which came to fruition this week.

The penis altar consists of a towering 12ft phallus painted in immaculate white, which stands in the centre of three smaller penis statues with their tips dyed an auspicious gold.

In front of the shrine, a sign reads: 'Everyone who pays respect to the father of the world will be lucky.'

Thoob explained that he had built the genital sculptures 'because without them, neither humans nor animals would exist in this world'.

He said that the largest penis statue contained dozens of Buddhist penis-shaped amulets, locally called 'palad khiks', that are believed to bring good fortune.

Whenever Thoob would stop by the shrine, he said he would take the time to pay his respects to the penis.

Footage shows how the superstitious local offers a short prayer, with one hand raised in front of his chest and another massaging the head of the foremost penis statue.

He said he hoped the shrine would help him sell the land, which he values at 60 million THB (1.64 million USD), adding he planned to donate 20 million THB (547,000 USD) to hospitals and schools as a goodwill gesture.

He said: 'My sons have no interest in managing the land, and I'm getting on in years, so I've decided to sell it. The price could increase to at least 100 million baht in the next decade because there will be a four-lane road built nearby soon.'

Thai people are no stranger when it comes to phallic superstitions - and love worshipping willies as they are believed to be a sign of spiritual power.

In June, a massive wooden penis was paraded around Kanchanaburi province to beseech the gods for rainfall. It was believed that wherever the penis pointed would soon experience rain.

While in December 2021, the Traitep Dream Forest penis park was opened in Khon Kaen, with women flocking the attraction hoping it would grant their wish to find a well-endowed partner.
