Hailstones rapidly carpeted the streets, with some areas experiencing waterlogged roads that became afloat with a sea of icy pellets in northern China.

The video was filmed in Dalian City in Liaoning Province on October 9.

Eyewitness Mrs Tang said hailstones began to pour, making a noise. It wasn't long before the ground was covered in a layer of ice.

According to Tang, the hailstones were as large as a fingernail. The storm lasted for 10 minutes, leaving a thick layer of hail that resembled a winter snow covering. "It was just like a snow day in winter," Tang added.

The Meteorological Department of Dalian has since issued an orange warning (the second strongest level) for hail and a blue warning (the least strongest level) for thunderstorms and high winds.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
