A powerful hailstorm struck southern China, damaging buildings, vehicles, and injuring residents.

Video filmed in the city of Ganzhou in Jiangxi Province on March 22, shows hailstones hitting the ground and rooftops with loud bangs.

Residents on the road were seen running away quickly, cars were damaged and the roof of a building was left riddled with holes.

Some people were also injured and bleeding due to being hit in the head by the hailstones.

The hailstones varied in size from small as glutinous rice balls to as large as eggs.

On the morning of March 23, the Jiangxi Provincial Emergency Management Department reported that the winds and hail disaster had affected 38,000 people in the province, resulting in a direct economic loss of 35.66 million yuan (£4,237,506).

The video was provided by local media with permission.
