STORYLINE:

The Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Tuesday met with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk in Cairo.

The meeting came in the framework of consultation and coordination regarding the disturbing humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip and the flagrant violations of Palestinian human rights.

During the meeting, the UN official listened carefully to Shoukry's assessment of the developments of the unprecedented military escalation in the Gaza Strip, in addition to the Egyptian vision and moves on the path to achieving a ceasefire and the delivery of necessary aid to Gaza residents.

Shoukry also listened to the UN official's assessment of the humanitarian situation in Gaza and his plan to act to confront the existing violations and monitor and verify them.

Shoukry emphasized the need to make more coordinated efforts from various parties to ensure that humanitarian aid enters Gaza and to remove the deliberate obstacles placed by the Israeli side.

For his part, the UN official praised the Egyptian efforts to contain the consequences of the crisis and work to put an end to it and also thanked the Egyptian government for facilitating his mission in Egypt and enabling him to visit the Rafah crossing.
