STORYLINE:

Rwandan chili farmers are hoping to expand the market for their product exports to China during the ongoing China International Import Expo (CIIE).

Rusango Real, a Rwandan agribusiness company, grows chili on 360 hectares of land in different parts of Rwanda, with plans to increase the planting area next season.

The company's managing director told Xinhua in a recent interview in Kigali that Rwandan exhibitors are showcasing their products on a wider platform with potential market expansion.

"We are putting more effort so that we get a lot of production. We are looking for big farms, and we're working with our partner's farmers here in Rwanda so we can get a lot of production to export them to China. We use organic fertilizers and we don't use chemical fertilizers, which make it taste good."

Rwibasira pointed out that the CIIE offers Rwandan farmers the opportunity to tap into the vast Chinese market for their chili exports, and also provides an excellent platform for showcasing products from developing countries to the world.

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): EMMANUEL RWIBASIRA, Managing director of Rusango Real
"For us who are going to participate in that expo, our products can be known and we can get a lot of markets there in China. I think the expo will help us here in Rwanda because we are going to get a lot of markets for our products and be known by that expo."
