This is the shocking moment an abusive patient pushed a paramedic out of an ambulance in London.

The 30-year-old paramedic had been trying to placate the uncooperative patient, but he was unceremoniously shoved out of the back of the ambulance outside the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

Footage released by the London Ambulance Service (LAS) on November 29 shows the harrowing moment the hapless medical worker landed on his elbow on the tarmac. He was seen writhing in agony as the patient casually hobbled past him.

Swift police intervention led to the arrest of the assailant, who has since been convicted and ordered to compensate the paramedic.

The LAS said the unidentified patient had also hurled homophobic slurs and verbal abuse at the medic 'because he had long hair.'

Recalling the incident, the medic said: 'It was very painful - so much so I thought I had broken my arm at first. There was such a sharp pain and then numbness. I'm glad this went to court because it reminds people this an unacceptable way to treat us and needs to be stopped.

'We come to work to help people, not for this. I always wear a bodyworn camera now and I make sure I'm never alone with some patients who I think might be a risk.'

The LAS said it has invested over £3 million in equipping ambulances with video cameras to enhance crew safety.

Incidents of assault on ambulance crews remain a concern, with 561 reported cases in the past year. LAS said continues its commitment to ensuring a violence-free work environment through initiatives like the 'Work Without Fear' campaign and a dedicated violence reduction unit.

Chief Paramedic Dr. John Martin said: 'We cannot and will not accept violence or physical threats towards our crews. We will do everything possible to keep them safe, including securing convictions where possible.'
