Chaos ensued in front of Wanda Plaza in Guangzhou, southern China on Dec 30, 2023, as sparks from an iron flower performance ignited hydrogen balloons scattered among the crowd.

The event took an unexpected turn as the iron flower performance, a traditional Chinese pyrotechnic display, led to sparks scattering into the crowd, resulting in the ignition of hydrogen balloons present at the scene. Witnesses reported people scrambling to safety.

Next day according to the customer service representative from Wanda Plaza, “last night, there was an iron flower performance in the square as part of the New Year's Eve celebration, featuring intangible cultural heritage artists. As the incident happened, we implemented crowd control measures. We need to verify if anyone was injured during the incident. If there were injuries, we will promptly inform everyone."

12月30日，广州市南沙区万达广场前，商场在进行打铁花活动时，四散的火星和人群中的氢气球相触后起火，现场人们纷纷四散而逃。12月31日下午2点51分，广州万达广场（南沙区）店客服台工作人员回应：“昨天晚上广场上是有打铁花表演，打铁花活动是为了跨年请的非遗艺术家过来做的表演。当时已经管控了，具体是否有人因此受伤需要核实。如果当时有人受伤，我们这边会及时通知。”
