A huge fire ripped through a factory storing hundreds of cans of paint in Thailand.

Footage shows firefighters battling the inferno as it engulfed the fertiliser factory in Kanchanaburi province on January 29.

Police Captain Taweesak Iamjongchan of the Phanom Thuan District Police Station said police were notified at 9 pm.

They arrived at the factory, which sat in the middle of sprawling cassava and sugar cane fields.

Firefighters focused on containing the spread of the fire, saying it was too dangerous to douse the blaze directly due to the potentially explosive chemicals in the paint.

Authorities said the fire died down on its own 'after several hours'. There were no injuries reported as the factory was empty at the time.

Worker Somkid Srisongkhram, 62, said the building had been rented to store more than 100 buckets of old paint, which were being used as fuel to incinerate scrap metal.

Police believe the fire may wascaused by smouldering debris from agricultural burning that was blown into the factory and ignited the paint cans.
