STORYLINE:
The three-day Sydney New Year Dragon Boat Racing kicked off at Darling Harbour in Sydney on Friday. It marks the Year of the Dragon and is the finale of Sydney's Chinese New Year celebrations.
The annual dragon boat race, one of the largest in the southern hemisphere, is in its 40th year and has attracted more than 3,000 participants from all over Australia and abroad, according to the organizer, the New South Wales Dragon Boat Association.

"This is Sydney Lunar New Year Dragon Boat Festival here in Sydney Darling Harbour. It's a fantastic event. We will have over 3,500 paddlers across the weekend. It's inspired by traditional Chinese event, but we absolutely put some Australia's twist on it. What I think Australian like this sport, it's a sport for everybody. Everyone in the boat contributes, just as much as everybody else. And there is no one person as a superstar. Everybody needs to chip in to be successful."
