Drone footage reveals rare sight of wolf pack navigating snowy landscape in northwestern China
A drone footage revealed a rare sight of a wolf pack navigating a snowy landscape in northwestern China.
Video filmed in Altay Prefecture in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on February 14, shows a pack of wolves moving forward with the young ones in the centre, the adults leading the way, and the older wolves bringing up the rear, cautiously observing this unfamiliar snowy terrain.
According to Ulahati, a herder from Hemu Village in Kanas Scenic Area, he and his family heard the howling of wolves in the morning and were too afraid to venture out, so they launched a drone to assess the situation.
Upon reaching a flat snowy area, the distance between the members of the pack widened, with one wolf becoming particularly alert as the drone approached, observing while accelerating to catch up with its companions.
Analysis from the wildlife conservation department of Kanas Scenic Area suggests that recent frequent snowfall and thick snow accumulation in the Altai Mountains, where the scenic area is located, have posed challenges for wild animals to forage for food outdoors.
The scenic area will closely monitor the impact of weather on animal activity.
